Strange Encounters #2

Strange Encounters #2

Continuing with the list of Strange Encounters I have had in my life, this one has to take the cake. This encounter happened with me when I had just passed out of college, so now almost 6 years ago.

Me and a group of friends had gone to watch the IPL Match in Ferozshah Kotla Stadium and I had gone in their car. While there , I met some other group of friends and we started hanging out together. The group of friends who I had come to the stadium with got bored pretty fast and decided to leave early. Me, being an ardent cricket follower could not even think about leaving early , so I let them go and told them that I would come home by myself. Now this is where the fun begins.

When the match ended, only two of us were remaining, rest all of my friends had left.We decided to take an Auto back to our respective houses, but such was the commotion outside, that we could get only 1 Auto. So we decided that the Auto will go to his house and he will leave me somewhere close to my house. So in the middle of the night, around midnight I have been dropped around 2 kms away from my house. I thought of taking the metro, but metro station door was closed, I was walking towards a Rickshaw Wallah when a Car pulled up near me.

It was a Black Scorpio with tinted windows, the driver rolled down the window and asked me directions to a certain place. He looked a nice guy to me , maybe in the mid 30s , wearing specks. I dont know, I always have this feeling that people wearing specks are nice people.  Me being a nice guy told him that it is just nearby and he should go straight and will eventually reach there. He asked me that where was I going and if it is on the way then he can drop me. As it is I was too tired from the match , I thought that why not, what harm can come to me, I am a big boy now. Big Mistake.

As soon as I sat in the car, he rolled up the windows. At that point I realized how stupid I can be. Sneakingly I tried to check if I was the only one in car, thankfully, I was the only one present. But something did not feel right, the speed of the car did not go above 15km/hr. The entire distance of 2 kms which should have been covered in less than 10 mins felt like ages to me. In the meantime he started conversing with me.

Stranger :- I have a flat in Anand Vihar, if you want we can go there together. I can show you where I live and we can party the entire night.

Me:- No thanks. I am too tired. I just want to go home.

Stranger : I am a Gym trainer by profession. Do you go to gym?

Me :- I try to. I am not regular.

Stranger :(Starts touching my Stomach) Does not look like that you have ever been to gym.

Me: (Starting to feel awkward by the touching, but thinking maybe its a trainer thing) I know, I am not that regular.

By this time we have almost reached the red light , still away from our house but the car will stop

Stranger: (Starting to touch my thighs now , near the main part) Your thighs are also very heavy.

Me:-( Now I am terrified, Now I know what this is all about, it is a fucking rape). I know, Thanks for the Ride.

And I drop down, there and then on the red light,  still a km away from my house, frantically cross the road and run like the wind towards my place. Also checking if maybe he is following me or not. He is not.

The entire night I kept on cursing myself for how stupid I can be. I did not share this with anyone for months because it would bring back such bad memories of the night.

I realized that how difficult it is for a girl to be in this planet, how difficult it is for them to experience this on a daily basis. How tough their life is each and every day. One more thing I realized is that this City is not safe even for guys at night.

This has to be the strangest encounters I have ever had in my life and I sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that this does not happen with anyone , ever.

Picking up the pieces.

This feels strange. Writing after so many years feels strange. It has been quite some time now , more than 7-8 years I think when I last wrote my blog. How the things have changed both for me and the world. How indeed.

It has been quite a journey, these 7 years. I have been to places that I thought I will never go to, New friendships have been made, old friendships have been strengthened. Regimes have fallen, governments have changed, heck even my house has changed.

But somethings remain the same, my zest for writing has not  diminished. I might have changed a lot from the outside, but from the inside I am still the same person. The same person who still wants to pen down his thoughts on everything in the world from Mundane stuff to space travel , in his blog.

I know this is going to be tough, I know I need to devote more time to this , I know I am a slow starter, but once started I am not going to leave it in between.

Hopefully this enthusiasm of mine never ends, the fire keeps on burning and eventually I keep on writing as long as I want.

Strange Encounters #1

This is a series about some Strange Encounters which I have had in my life, or I can say that I have had many encounters but these are the ones which are the strangest and the ones that I can remember. I am sure many of you out there have had many such encounters. I would like to share one such which happened with me and my friends on a fine Saturday evening.

I was with my friends in a place called Thadi in Hauz Khas Village. This was the 1st time we had gone there and it was truly a memorable experience. The place is located in the modern yet somewhat rustic locality of Hauz Khas Village. The place itself is very difficult to find, you have to ask at least 3-4 people before you reach the entrance. Even after reaching the entrance you are not sure if you are in the right place. One has to climb at least 50 stairs before you reach to the cafe, and the stairs are not your normal Cafe stairs. It is like you are going to a very old house which has not been used since a long time. The whole feel of the place before even entering the place was out of the world. To think that a cafe can be located at such a locality was amazing. It made us more enthusiastic and curious to explore what lies ahead.

Finally, we did reach Thadi. It is a normal Hookah Parlor(which you can find dozens of these days) with some things different. But the best thing about the place has to be the view. The View of the Hauz Khas fort (or Royal Tank or the place where some shooting of Rockstar took place) is just mind blowing. The view is literally jaw dropping. There is a lake with Swans and Ducks swimming, the lake is surrounded by greenery on all sides and to top it there is also a fort on the side which is beautifully ruined.  Somehow a visit to a fort always makes me excited as I tend to imagine about it and the things or the people that used to live here .The Hauz Khas fort as I call it is also an amazing place to visit but let me stick to Thadi for now.

In Thadi, apart from the view, the food and drinks are OK types. Hookah is just above average but frankly I have had better Hookahs in Delhi. There is also another addition to Thadi, you get to play your own music. There are 2-3 speakers there, with Woofers and there is a 3.5 mm Jack with which you can plug into your phone and experience the feel of being a DJ. Play whatever songs you like to play, the owner does not complain, and the crowd obviously always loves good music. That is the time when the Strange Encounter starts to begin.

My friend was fondly playing David Guetta songs and everyone was enjoying it as David Guetta had just performed the day before in Gurgaon. Then came a girl (the girl) who was dressed in such an abrupt fashion that was hard to describe. She was wearing jeans and a t-shirt…over that jeans she was wearing some sort of a skirt, which was very explicitly designed, then she was also wearing a stole if I correctly remember, her right hand till the elbow was plastered. She wore specks, her hair was in a very bad shape and it looked that she had done some shopping because she was carrying a lot of carry bags. There was something about her which was just not right, it could have been that she came alone to this place, maybe she always came alone, or she was waiting for someone over there, but no one came. Or she was like the travelers who liked to visit places. No idea..But there was definitely something not right about her

Well, it was not to bother us as we were thoroughly enjoying our songs and each others company and she was also humming to the tunes and dancing on the beats which my friend was playing thoroughly enjoying being the DJ when suddenly she came over to us and politely asked my friend to turn the volume down a bit as she was talking on the phone, my friend obliged and lowered down the volume.

We thought that this would be the end of it, and no more discussion with this girl.

But…we were wrong

We were about to leave and had asked for our bill when the girl came over and asked if any of us had conveyance, we told her that we had conveyance but the friend in whose car we had come had gone home and now we were without any and we would probably take an auto (which was the truth infact), she said that she did not mind and if we could drop her to the nearest metro station. We being the true gentleman that we are did not say no and told her that you can hitchhike; we have not got a problem.

Then she sat down with us, while we were waiting for the bill, somebody called her on her tab.

Her conversation was very brief as she was not able to understand who had called her, she said that I meet hundreds of people every day and I give my number to every one of them so you have to be very specific in explaining the details so that she can understand to whom she was talking to. One of my friends went to the washroom and in the meantime that friend of mine missed a lot of things.

She started conversing with a friend of mine who was a girl by the way. The conversation goes like this:-

The girl: – So, what do you suggest, I am meeting two guys, whom should I go with?

My friend (slightly shocked):- Whomever you know better.

The girl:-Both are random guys, I don’t know anyone of them, both of them I have met today only, One I have helped and one has helped me(pointing to the plaster)

My friend(Not understanding what to say):- Hmmmmmmm

The girl:- Please tell me, I am very confused. I will use protection by the way(looking at us and saying some things which I could not understand)

My friend(Bedazzled):- Go with the one who is better looking.

The girl:- Ooooooooohhhhhhhhh…you are such a B**ch. I knew it.I will go with that one only

My friend(GOD HELP ME)

Me(thinking that who is saying what to whom)

Then entered my friend and we paid the bill, now it was the girl’s turn to go to the washroom, we thought of it as a perfect opportunity to escape and ran like hell downstairs.

After reaching downstairs we realized that is was not the best thing we had done, after all she was injured and had asked for our help so we thought of waiting for her to come down, and my friend who had gone to washroom was told in detail about the above conversation, felt his duty to get the girls number.:-) She came downstairs after 5 mins or so and was very happy to see us waiting, she even said that you guys are so nice that have waited for me, otherwise people always run away from me(Thank god for the reality check).

We went ahead our way finding an auto(ASAP), then we finally got one and without bargaining just wanted to go to the nearest metro station as soon as possible. In the meantime she was all blah blah blah, that she is the event organizer of all the concerts in Delhi, if you want the tickets of the Shafqat Amanat Ali concert, we should do take her number and stuff and stuff

In the auto, we were four people including the girl, and you can imagine the state of us four sitting together. It was hell. She went ahead with her bio data, that she likes to travel a lot, she is currently going to a place in Paharganj which is very famous(according to her, we had not even heard about it), that she earns around 16 lakhs a month(yes, a month) but she does not have a home and she loves travelling so she stays in hotels all across the world(and apparently meets random people on the way). My friend asked her that how did she get all plastered up on that right shoulder of hers(trying to be sympathetic)..she said that she was having Sex with a Nigger and he fucked her up pretty hard that she got all plastered up..well she caught us by surprise yet again. She later clarified that she fell down stairs and she was joking, but what a joke!!

Thank god the metro station came and she departed, all the time forcing us to take some gift from her as it is her custom, but we refused the gift very graciously. After she left, we were all awestruck by the girl and all of us had our own takes on her. My friend said that she was high, other one said that she was mad, the Auto driver said (yes the Auto driver also contributed) that I know these kind of people, they are definitely mad.

All in all, this was a very lovely evening for all of us together at a very nice place called Thadi and all of us are never going to forget the girl. The strangest girl I have ever met. What a perfectly Strange encounter.

Some Amazing Facts!!!

These are some of the facts that I am damn sure, no one would have known about them before. Check these out:-
Q: Why do men’s clothes have buttons on the right while women’s clothes have buttons on the left? A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid’s right! And that’s where women’s buttons have remained since.

Q: Why do ships and aircraft use ‘mayday’ as their call for help?

A: This comes from the French word m’aidez -meaning ‘help me’ — and is pronounced, approximately,’ mayday.’

Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called ‘love’?

A: In France, where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called ‘l’oeuf,’ which is French for ‘egg.’ When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans (mis)pronounced it ‘love.’

Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called ‘passing the buck’?

A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would ‘pass the buck’ to the next player.

Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?

A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host’s glass with his own.

Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be ‘in the limelight’?

A:Invented in 1825,limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatrical performer ‘in the limelight’ was the centre of attention.

Q: Why is someone who is feeling great ‘on cloud nine’?

A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares.

Q: In golf, where did the term ‘Caddie’ come from?

A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to Franceas a young girl, Louis, King of France , learned that she loved the Scots game ‘golf.’ So he had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when returned to Scotland(not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced ‘ca-day’ and the Scots changed it into ‘caddie.

Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches (milling), while pennies and nickels do not?

A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren’t notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.

 So there. Now you know

What is GRE??

This is a series that I would like to start regarding the GRE exam and how to crack it and all the its n bits of GRE. True that I am not a GRE expert but with my own experience of GRE exam and the experience of all my friends who went through it, this series could be highly beneficial for those aspiring to give GRE in the near future.

I gave my GRE in the month of October in 2010 and scored 1440(Quant-790, Ver-650). I could have scored better had I prepared better but this score was pretty good for the Universities I wanted to apply to. After giving my GRE I realised that I could have easily scored more than 1500 if I had some basic tips to work with and that is when I realised that there is such a vast need of a place where one could find all the tips regarding GRE and its nuances.

To start with,GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination. The most important paper of your life if you have dreams of doing your Masters outside India. There are so many streams one can get into and so many people who give GRE every month which can also be judged by the grooming number of Coaching Institutes every day.The main aim of the GRE is to give the aspirants a portal in which if they score well then their chances of getting a good university increases drastically. Also the people of the Universities who are judging you also have a good look at your GRE scores and decide accordingly about your admission. Thus, for studying outside India the very first step that you have to keep in mind is your GRE, the rest i.e the loans, the universities can take a break for a while. GRE can be given if you have your MS or PhD in mind, and nowadays also your MBA.

The GRE consists of 3 sections namely:- Quantitative ability, Verbal Ability and Analytical Writing Skills(AWA).All the three sections are equally important but the aspirant usually gives more weightage to the Quant and Verbal sections.

Quantitative section and Verbal Section are of 800 marks each and your numbers are scored in steps of 10, i.e your score will be 750 or 760 but not 753 or 787.The AWA section is of 6.0 marks and is scored in the steps of 0.5- i.e. your score will be 4.5 or 5.0 but can never be 5.7 or 4.9.

Each and every section will be explained further in the posts after this one because each and every section has to be explained in very minute details so that the readers are able to crack the GRE more efficiciently. For more information related to the GRE you can always refer to the official site of GRE which is www.ets.org
